Intimate and unique venue perfect for both your small ceremony and reception, stunning for a photo location

Interviewing Brenda Veerman, Weddings Coordinator at Wings of Paradise®

How could a bride not fall in love with the idea of saying 'I do', surrounded by a world of butterflies, flowers, waterfalls, plants and greenery? Wings of Paradise lives up to their name by offering a year-round tropical paradise for your wedding day, right here in the community. Rain or shine, your custom-designed wedding day will come together from an impressive list of options that Wings of Paradise offers. Couples have been known to hold several or all of their wedding day events in this one romantic location - from ceremonies and receptions to their photo shoots in front of naturally exotic backdrops.

The Ring has been dying to showcase the facilities of this amazing location, and after getting our own personal tour of wedding options at Wings of Paradise, we can tell you that it was well worth the wait. Let us explain...

Personally speaking...

Brenda Veerman is the contact that brides deal with here, and you'll soon learn that she'll be your right hand when it comes to planning your Wings of Paradise wedding day. This is Brenda's fourth year taking care of weddings at Wings of Paradise, first working as the Food & Beverage Manager and now in her role as Weddings Coordinator. She'll be there for your wedding day, from start to finish.

Your ceremony in paradise

Your Wings of Paradise wedding starts out with your ceremony in your choice of locations. For groups up to 30 people seated, or up to 70 in a more casual, standing set-up, you can be married

Breaking it down...

To tempt your taste buds... here are a just a few of your many options: Beef Tenderloin Slices on a Croute with Horseradish Cream, Cheddar Cheese Shortbreads with Black Forest Ham Pate, Mushroom and Cheddar Quiche Tartlets, Pizza Bites, Lentil and Potato Samosas with Spicy Cider Vinegar Dipping Sauce, Carrot Cake, Chocolate Covered Strawberries.

in The Conservatory amid the tropical splendour of waterfalls, plants, flowers and, of course, butterflies. For parties of up to 70 guests, The Monarch Room, decorated with a tulle arbour, lights and tropical plants transforms into an ideal ceremony location, still reminiscent of The Conservatory's ambiance.

Ceremonies for up to 30 guests are priced at a flat fee of $675 (plus GST). This includes your guests' admission to The Conservatory. If you plan to have more than 30 guests, each person is an extra $3.50 plus GST. If you plan to have both your ceremony and reception all-in-one at Wings of Paradise, the ceremony fee is $550 (plus GST), which includes admission for all your guests.

Butterfly release

Following the ceremony the bride and groom will take part in a butterfly release inside The Conservatory. This acts as a symbolic event and a beautiful memory that you can share with your friends and family - not to mention a great photo opportunity!

The Butterfly Conservatory at Wings of Paradise is open to the public from 10 am until 5 pm daily, so you can book this space for your ceremony either between 8 and 10 am, or between 5 and 7 pm. A butterfly release can be scheduled at any time, but if you'd like a private release, plan it outside of regular business hours.

On-site photos

Because of the natural light, closeness of nature and weather control, The Conservatory is an excellent location for your wedding photos. Brides and grooms getting married on-site or elsewhere regularly book The Conservatory for their photo shoot because of these reasons. There are no worries about rain, cold or wind inside The Conservatory, yet the beauty of the flowers, plants and butterflies will be evident in every one of your photos. Due to the tropical climate in The Conservatory, there may be some time needed for equipment to acclimate to the humidity so you should discuss this with your photographer. Also, The Conservatory is lit with natural light during the day only, so your photographer will need to bring appropriate lighting equipment for non-daylight hours.

Sessions are booked in one-hour blocks between 9 and 10 am, or between 5 and 6 pm. This will allow you full access to both the indoor tropical garden and the outdoor butterfly garden (when the season permits). For a flat fee of $300 (plus GST) you and your wedding party will have no worries about space or bumping elbows with other visitors or bridal parties. Wings of Paradise books only one wedding party per one-hour time slot.

Wings of Paradise only takes bookings two weeks in advance of your wedding day for photographs. Full payment is due when booking, and the cost is non-refundable.

Party time...

For your reception, the Paradise Café is converted to an intimate tropical paradise complete with decorations, candles, centerpieces, flowers, and a brand new backdrop for your head table. Linens (white tablecloths and over fifteen napkin colours to choose from) and tableware are also included. You are welcome to bring your own decorations and linens, but you should consult with Brenda in regards to what is and isn’t allowed. Tables are intimately set for four, six and eight depending on the size of your guest list (up to 80 guests can be accommodated). You will have exclusive use of the Paradise Café, The Conservatory, Foyer and Two Galleries showcasing butterflies from around the world throughout the evening of your reception.

Feeding the guests

When it comes to your reception meal, if you can dream it, Wings of Paradise can do it. There are four styles of reception dinners for you to choose from at Wings of Paradise: The Cocktail Reception is perfect for groups up to 200 people and is $65 per person. For groups of 30 to 70 guests, you can choose the Dinner Buffet (at $75 per person) or the Four Course Gourmet Dinner (at $85 per person). For something a little different, there is also the Butterfly Brunch which offers a buffet for 30 to 70 guests at $45 per person.

Thinking about a winter wedding?

For many reasons, Wings of Paradise offers an ideal location for a winter wedding:

warmth and shelter from the elements at all times

an all-in-one location with no need for you or your guest to leave or deal with stepping in puddles or snow banks

the beauty of nature will surround you, even on the coldest of days

While there are some meal suggestions for you to take a look at, Wings of Paradise will customize your menu to suit your needs and your taste buds, including ethnic, vegetarian, and special dietary requests. Everything can be done by the catering team from the appetizers through to a wedding cake just for you. There is no outside food allowed on premises, with the exception of an outside wedding cake, if you'd prefer.

Wings of Paradise is not licenced, but you can obtain a special occasion permit (get one from the LCBO) and bring in your own bar stock. In addition to the permit, you must also get liability insurance to cover your event. The staff at Wings will serve your alcohol for you at prices that include all glassware, soft drinks, other mixes and ice... to find out more about their flat price list for Wine & Beer Service, Full Bar Service or Dinner Wine Service, based on guest numbers, please call Brenda.

Inotherwords...

"I can't imagine a more perfect place for our wedding. The Conservatory was both beautiful and elegant, allowing us to have a wedding in nature's surrounding even at the end of February when the weather outside was less than accommodating. While we didn't at first think we would have the butterfly release, we decided our nieces and nephew would enjoy it, and so they did! Even the adults got a thrill out of the butterfly release - I have a great picture of our minister with the most childlike look of wonder on her face when the butterflies took off in flight. The meal was absolutely splendid, and I've had more than one request for the recipe for the dill potato soup that was served. It was a lovely way to finish off a day filled with beauty and happiness. I have since received a number of comments about how wonderful our wedding was, and how much our guests enjoyed it. One guest even commented that it was the most beautiful wedding they'd ever attended, particularly considering the location... Wings of Paradise was the perfect place to have an outdoor setting of beauty and warmth , and the staff did everything possible to help add to the pleasure of the event. Our wedding truly was a perfect day, unfolding exactly as we would have hoped." - Andi & Ian
